Operations, Quality & Applications Engineer

Location: Pinehurst, TX
Reports to: COO/CTO

  

Role Overview


PLUG is seeking a highly capable Operations, Quality & Applications Engineer to serve as the technical backbone of our pipeline isolation and testing business. This role combines engineering execution, quality ownership, and client-facing technical support, acting as the bridge between customers, sales, operations, and manufacturing.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with strong fundamentals, practical field awareness, and the ability to manage both engineered solutions and the documentation, procedures, and compliance that support them.

  

Key Responsibilities

Engineering, Operations & Applications Support


  • Review client specifications, drawings, and operating requirements to develop fit-for-purpose pipeline isolation and testing solutions
  • Perform engineering calculations, stress assessments, sizing, and feasibility studies for pressure-containing equipment
  • Select appropriate tools, equipment, and methodologies based on pressure, diameter, medium, temperature, and operating environment
  • Conduct and support pigging studies, tool compatibility reviews, and operational assessments
  • Support FATs, SITs, mobilizations, and post-job technical reporting
  • Provide technical troubleshooting and engineering support during project execution

  

Quality, Procedures & Compliance


  • Develop, implement, and maintain engineering procedures, work instructions, and quality documentation
  • Ensure all engineering and operational activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and client specifications (ASME, API, ISO, etc.)
  • Maintain document control, revision management, and traceability of engineering and quality records
  • Support internal, client, and third-party audits
  • Ensure company paperwork, records, and technical files remain compliant and audit-ready

  

Proposal, Tender & Commercial Support


  • Prepare technical inputs for proposals, including scope descriptions, assumptions, and clarifications
  • Collaborate with sales and commercial teams to develop compliant, competitive tenders
  • Participate in technical bid reviews and client clarification meetings
  • Support risk assessments, method statements, and execution strategies

  

Client & Stakeholder Engagement


  • Act as a technical point of contact for clients during pre-award and post-award phases
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and site visits
  • Liaise with operations, workshop, and field teams to ensure solutions are practical and deliverable
  • Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  

Continuous Improvement


  • Capture lessons learned from projects and field execution
  • Support the development of standard tools, engineered solutions, and templates
  • Contribute to improvements in engineering processes, procedures, and design tools

  

Qualifications & Experience Essential


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in pipeline services, oil & gas, energy, or industrial engineering
  • Strong understanding of pressure systems, pipeline operations, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, CAD tools, and 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  

Desirable


  • Experience with pipeline pigging, isolation, testing, or intervention technologies
  • Field experience (onshore or offshore)
  • Familiarity with ASME, API, ISO, and related industry standards
  • Prior experience supporting proposals or technical tenders
